Today we were at Samuel Barlow Primary Academy to present the Ulyett Landscapes Cup to the winners of the tournament. They now have the first name on the cup!
The Ulyett Landscapes tournament started this year (running alongside Premier League Primary Stars) and is aimed at girls in years 5 and 6 of Primary School. We were absolutely amazed by the interest we had in the first year of this competition with a total of 13 schools taking part. All 13 schools put in an amazing performance during the 8 a side games but it was Samuel Barlow’s girls that came out on top.
Gary Shaw, who set up the tournament, is staggered with the interest in just the first (of many) year(s) and he hopes that the 13 schools from this year will take part in the tournament next year as well as many more. He hoped that setting up this tournament would help more girls to get involved with football and continue it into the future. The tournament has created new opportunities for girls to be involved in football that they may not have had before.
We would also like to give a massive thank you to Mark Burton (left) who is the owner of Ulyett Landscapes and sponsor of the Ulyett Landscapes Cup who came today to present the girls with their medals and the trophy.
