On Saturday [5th September] Mansfield Town Football in the Community welcomed back youngsters to the popular ‘Saturday Morning Kids Club’.

Taking place at the One Call Stadium, the event offers youngsters aged five to fifteen two hours of pure football fun, consisting of coaching games, small sided matches and tournaments.

Overseen by Football in the Community staff, the group is split off into two – older and younger, based on age and ability.

Gary Shaw, Community Manager, said “A huge negative to lockdown was the fact that young people couldn’t socialise as much with people their own age and have the freedom of playing football with a smile on their face – so as soon as we knew we were reopening we made it our priority to get this session up and running again.

“The lockdown period will have undoubtedly had an impact on mental health and wellbeing, so being able to have two hours of free play, without the pressure of working on technique or learning, is really key.

“We’ve set up our activity to be as safe and covid compliant as possible and look forward to welcoming back more participants over the coming weeks.

“We know that after such a long period and with all the uncertainty around that both parents and children can be anxious, but as children head back to the classroom or even move schools – having something to build friendships and confidence is vital and that’s exactly what this activity offers.”

The Saturday Morning Kids Club runs every Saturday 10am to 12noon, with prices starting at £4 per child per session. The event will run consecutively every Saturday until further notice.
