What is Walking Football ???
Walking Football is a slow-paced version of the beautiful game aimed at the over 50s and is designed to help people keep an active lifestyle despite their age, as well as getting those back playing football who had to stop due to injuries. As the name suggests, Walking Football is non-contact and anyone that sprints, runs or jogs while the ball is in play will be penalised with a free-kick awarded to the other team.
Our walking football team was formed after an initial health initiative programme in partnership with Everyone Health where we targeted males over 50s who was interested in losing weight and generally leading a more healthy lifestyle. This proved to be a success in more ways than one with a few of the guys losing weight and on a wider scale we managed to use a nucleus of the participants to form our Walking Football team at Mansfield Town FC.
We operate the sessions twice weekly, with a session at the RH Academy (Wednesday) and on Saturday’s (One Call Stadium)
We have two time slots, 9am till 10am when Mansfield Town FC are playing away from home or have no fixture and 9am till 10.30am when Mansfield Town FC are playing at home.
Cost for the sessions is just £3.00 per week
The sessions run weekly 6-7pm, costing £4
Our sessions consist of weekly training covering topics such as possession, shape etc and also occasional fixtures / festivals are arranged against other Walking Football opposition.
This activity has a great social aspect and we are always looking for newcomers.
