Sutton Road squeeze through to local final

Sutton Road Primary School have become the second school to book their place at our Local Final for this year’s EFL Under 11s Kids Cup, beating Wynndale by a goal to nil at the RH Academy.

Nine schools competed in the second of four qualifying tournaments, playing in two groups with Wynndale topping Group A with four straight wins, whilst not to be outdone in Group B, Sutton Road also recorded maximum points with six wins from as many games. Teams in group A played each other once, whilst teams in group B played each other twice due to a late cancellation.

The sides then met in the tournament final and played out a tense affair, settled by a single goal from the spot after a Wynndale handled the ball following a ferocious Sutton Road free kick, the only goal which Wynndale conceded across the entire tournament.

Gary Shaw, Community Manager, said “A massive well done to all involved tonight, it was a really competitive evening which threw up some surprising results.

“A lot of the students playing tonight don’t play regularly for a team and so this was the first real taste of competitive football and they’ve really lapped it up”

Sutton Road join last week’s winners King Edwards in the local final in two weeks time – the final two qualifying tournaments will be played next week.
