Mansfield Town captain Krystian Pearce and fellow defenders  Matt Preston and Ben Turner made the trip to St Andrews Primary School yesterday (26th February) – handing out book tokens to pupils ahead of World Book Day.

The Stags trio were also grilled by youngsters in a question and answer session during their weekly Premier League Primary Stars session, led by Football in the Community coaches.

This coming Saturday pupils will get the chance to exchange their vouchers for books as WH Smith’s transform Football in the Community into a pop-up book shop where books will also be available for just £1 between 12noon and 2.30pm.

Mansfield’s trio of defenders faced a number of questions about their careers and pathways into football, including why they wanted to become a footballer and who they took inspiration from – you can catch the video below.

Gary Shaw, Community Manager & PL Primary Stars lead said “The questions were brilliant from the students and Krystian, Matt and Ben gave some really insightful answers – the kids loved it.

“A lot of our work also focuses reading and writing intervention and we’re really excited to be hosting the pop-up book shop on Saturday – and with kids (under 18s) able to attend the fixture for FREE, it’s a fantastic way for them to come and get a book and enjoy an afternoon’s football as the Stags continue their quest for promotion.”
