Four of our areas Primary Schools have completed their participation in Premier League Primary Stars, working with our coaches in after school clubs and PE interventions over the last term.
Pupils from King Edward School, Dalestorth Primary, Wainwright Primary Academy and Manor Park Infants have been working with our coaches since the start of the year improving their sporting skills with afterschool clubs, along with getting help in literacy and numeracy with our classroom interventions.
Teachers from the four schools have also worked with our coaches to help them to improve the quality of their own PE delivery within schools, finding resources and additional activities through the Premier League Primary Stars Website.
Gemma Goddard, PE & Sports Leader at King Edward Primary School, said “I registered [on the PL Primary Stars Website] about two years ago and it’s a fantastic resource to have, it’s helped me to access some really fun and varied activities for the pupils’ lessons which they’ve really enjoyed.
“I’ve used the website for ideas and resources for PE lessons, lots of evasion games and ball handling – there’s lots of different activities on there which are really easy to find, click onto and use – they’re really self-explanatory both in terms of how to deliver the session and the progression for each child.
“I’m always looking for new ideas to engage the children, new games etc which use sport but are really good to get the non-sporty children interested and engaged – we’ve got a few children who were like that and through a combination of those sessions and the after school clubs which Football in the Community deliver, have got them really active and enjoying sports”
Community Manager Gary Shaw said “Since the turn of the year we’ve been really bigger and expect to be even more so after half-term, a lot of the schools are really finding the PL Primary Stars website a really good resource and we are working really hard with teachers to help them access that
“It’s really important now that the weather is getting better than teachers have those weapons in their armoury to help the children develop long-term. The challenge is always to get the non-sporty children engaged, and a lot of the teachers have commented that thanks to the PL Primary Website, they’re able to adapt lessons and sessions to break down those barriers”
All schools received certificates of achievement along with tickets to Mansfield Town’s forthcoming home match with Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.
