Schools Complete Primary Stars Program

Mansfield Town Football in the Community are sending congratulations to three of our local schools, after completing the Premier League Primary Stars program.

Pupils from John T Rice Primary (Forest Town), Wainwright Academy (Mansfield) and Heathlands Primary School (Rainworth) recently completed their respective programs, where Football in the Community coaches delivered football based PE Sessions and assisted with classroom based activities.

The main aim of the Premier League Primary Stars project is to enhance the provision of PE and improve pupil educational attainment in Maths and English across the areas primary schools.

This project will develop teacher knowledge, skills and confidence in the delivery of the school’s PE, and raise the children’s understanding, interest and confidence in Maths and English.

Louise Watson, Class Two teacher at Heathlands, said “The children have really enjoyed it, it’s been brilliant for them – it’s nice for them to be playing [football] together because sometimes at lunchtime it can be just boys playing football so it’s nice to see the girls playing as well.

“The high level skills that they’re being taught are something I’m not a very confident at [teaching football] so for them to get quality sessions focussing on skills etc each week is brilliant to watch.”

Gary Shaw, Premier League Primary Stars Coordinator, said “The kids have really taken to the sessions and progressed really well, inside and outside of the classroom.

“I think the sessions have been really beneficial to the teachers too as they’ve taken on new ideas and approaches which they’ll take into lessons. It’s been a really successful program for everyone involved.”
