Samuel Barlow Primary Academy set to harness Premier League appeal through donation of sporting equipment

Pupils and staff from Samuel Barlow Primary Academy, Clipstone part of the Diverse Academies Learning Partnership are celebrating after being awarded a Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment pack.

Excited children at the academy opened the pack, which contained an extensive range of new sporting equipment including Nike footballs, large dice, cones, bibs, floater balls, pumps, alphabet discs and much more.

The pack forms part of a curriculum-linked programme of educational support to primary schools in England and Wales, inspired by the appeal of the Premier League cubs. Delivered by the Football Foundation, the Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment Scheme gives teachers a range of equipment that can be used across different curriculum areas to get children active.

The new kit will support learning and enhance playtimes for the children encouraging pupils to be active and develop important life skills.

Melanie Brown, principal at Samuel Barlow said: “We are absolutely thrilled to receive the new equipment alongside a suite of downloadable resources for our teachers. The materials are easy-to-use and have been developed in partnership with education organisations including the National Literacy Trust and the PSHE Association ensuring they support learning appropriate to a primary setting. Our staff and children are looking forward to putting the kit to good use across key stages 1 and 2 in English, maths, PE, and in personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) classes.

Mathematician Rachel Riley and children’s authors Cressida Cowell and Dan Freedman have also helped to create the teaching packs, which use real life sporting examples to put lessons into a relevant and engaging context for children.

Richard Scudamore, executive chairman of the Premier League and Football Foundation Trustee, added: Congratulations to Samuel Barlow Primary Academy on their successful application for a Premier League Primary Stars Kit and Equipment pack. We hope this kit, coupled with the free online resources, will help teachers harness the popularity of football to inspire primary school kids in everything from maths and English to teamwork and sport.
