Mansfield Town Football in the Community’s Post 16 Students marked their league debut with victory today, beating Nottingham Forest B two-nil in an open contest at the RH Academy.
The Stags side which comprised entirely of year thirteen students secured all three points thanks to goals from midfielder Cole Twinn and front man Sam Harris, along with a sterling display from keeper Jamie Aston who secured a first sheet in his first ever 11-a-side match.

Skipper Wright stepped up to deliver the resulting set-play which fell for Twinn inside the six-yard box, Twinn making no mistake in turning the ball beyond the reds’ keeper to put Mansfield ahead.
Mansfield had further chances before the hour mark to double their lead through Bull and Harris but neither could find the clinical touch.
Visitors Forest B then enjoyed a prolonged spell of possession but Mansfield stood firm and in the 71st minute found the breakthrough, Dillon was involved with the action again with a neat ball over the top of the Forest backline which saw Harris burst through the middle and convert beyond the on-rushing keeper.
Mansfield keeper Aston was then called into action four minutes later as Forest sought a way back into the match, palming away an effort struck from the edge of the area which looked destined for the top corner.
The save reinvigorated Mansfield who had started to looked tired, but a resilient team spirit saw the youngsters battle through the elements and six additional minutes to seal their first ever victory.
