Peafield Lane School have become the third school to secure their place in this seasons local final of the EFL Under 11s Kids Cup, with a solid 4-0 victory over St Michaels at Rainworth’s Joseph Whitaker School.
Nine teams competed in the third of four qualifying tournaments played at Rainworth’s Joseph Whitaker School to encourage teams from further afield to enter and reduce travelling time.
Split into two groups, Group A saw four teams compete playing each other twice, with St Michaels topping the group unbeaten with six wins from as many matches, whilst in group B, teams played each other once with Peafield Lane triumphing over their opponents, with a 2-0 victory over Abbey Primary in the penultimate match enough to knock the latter from the top of the table and see them through.
The final itself was well contested but saw Peafield make the most of their chances to progress, they’ll join King Edward and Sutton Road Primary in next weeks Local Final, along with the winner of tomorrow night’s final qualifying tournament which includes former grand finalists Samuel Barlow and several local finalists from previous seasons.
Community Manager Gary Shaw said “A massive congratulations to Peafield Lane, they played some really good football and where extremely professional throughout the night.
“We’ve had over 30 schools compete in this year’s tournament and it’s one of the most popular ones we have ever run, the standard has been so high and the kids love being able to play competitive fixtures and are really enjoying being part of a team.”
