Pupils from Mansfield based St Patricks Catholic Primary School enjoyed a day out of the classroom, taking on the ultimate learning experience with Mansfield Town Football in the Community’s Collapsed Curriculum Day.
Delivered as part of Premier League Primary Stars, the days gives Primary Schools the opportunity to take pupils away from the classroom environment and learn new skills through a dynamic experience, aimed at improving pupils confidence with a different approach to learning.
Recently year one students from St Patricks Catholic Primary School enjoyed a session with us, with the day tailored to suit the needs and requirements of the school, age group and class size.
Throughout the day the youngsters enjoyed a PHSE session on healthy eating, a Stadium Tour of the One Call Stadium and a Physical Education session – delivered by Football in the Community’s coaching team.
Joe Stevenson, Year One Teacher at St Patricks, said “We’ve tried different [extracurricular] things before but this is something different – it’s a very varied day with time inside and time outside to let off steam and learn a lot of new skills, we’ll definitely be recommending it to other teachers.
“The kids gain new knowledge about Mansfield Town FC & how important it is to our community, but also the new skills and games which they’ve learnt will be something we take back to school with us to help them to develop further.
“Coming here [to the One Call Stadium] is fantastic, you have more facilities than we have at School with more equipment to deliver a range of varied games they haven’t done before – it really helps especially with the new OFSTED Framework, as we need a balanced curriculum which this is certainly providing” w, Community Manager, added “The Collapsed Curriculum Days are something we’ve developed over the last year or so, and they’ve proven a real hit for the Schools attending.
“Our primary focus is to work with the schools and the teachers to mould the perfect day for them to fit in with work modules they are currently studying or have planned, for example we sculpt PHSE sessions around Healthy Eating, Mental Health or Cyber Bullying – and deliver other sessions themed around our ground tour which could be Creative Writing, History or Maths/ English challenges and provide any support which Teachers may require”
