The Kinder+Sport EFL Futsal Cup – National Finals
Manor Academy represented Mansfield Town FC as they aimed to finish higher than 6th like they did in the 2015/16 season.
The boys travelled to Derby Arena full of confidence from their Regional Finals victory. Upon arrival Mansfield found out they was grouped together with Fleetwood, Bradford City & Blackpool.
The opening group game saw a convincing 6-3 win for Mansfield over Fleetwood with striker Callum Ashby scoring 5 goals.
Bradford City was next for the Stags. A physical Bradford side emerged victorious following a 4-2 victory.
Mansfield’s final group game was against Blackpool and this was a tight affair but the Manor lads showed great character and determination to come through 4-3 winners.
Mansfield progressed through the group as runners up to Bradford.
The semi final set up a tie against Burton Albion. Mansfield proved to good and strong for Burton with a 3-0 victory.
This then set up a replay with Bradford City in the final.
Both teams cancelled each other out early doors but Mansfield defended well and attacked with purpose. The stags took a 1-0 lead through Callum Ashby who scored a total of 11 goals in the tournament therefore winning the top goal scorer award but Bradford equalised soon after. With the clock winding down into the final 90 seconds Mansfield scored what proved to be a crucial and winning goal.
Mansfield ( Manor Academy ) have now got the title of National Champions as they won The Kinder+Sport EFL Futsal Cup.
Congratulations must go to all the players and staff involved. The boys were a massive credit to their school and represented Mansfield Town FC impeccably.
