The line-up for this seasons John Radford Trophy final has been completed, with reigning champions Samuel Barlow school progressing alongside Greenwood Primary in last night’s [Thursday 28th March] final two qualifying groups.
Holly Primary and Mapplewells Primary had already made it through qualifying Group A and will now compete with Group B winners Greenwood and Group C winners Samuel Barlow to see who takes this seasons Trophy.
Played in the new format at the RH Academy, five teams competed in Group B and five in Group C – playing everybody once with the team in top spot in each group making it through to the next stage of the competition.
Group B was a very narrow affair with Greenwood squeezing through on goal difference, second placed Peafield made it nail biting stuff in the groups’ final match as they beat the Bramble Academy 5-0, one more goal would have seen the group decided via a penalty shootout, as both Greenwood and Peafield would have been tied on goal difference AND goals scored.
Group C saw reigning champions Samuel Barlow fight to retain their crown – doing so in emphatic style as they recorded four straight victories, although second placed King Edward were in with a shout right up until the groups final match where Samuel Barlow triumphed 5-0 to top the group.
Jordan Ferrer, Assistant Community Manager said “A huge well done to all of the teams competing, it was the most competitive tournament I’ve seen for years with who goes through going right to the wire, especially in Group B where one more goal for Peafield would have made things very interesting indeed.
“The final will be very well contested and I wouldn’t like to call it! Hosting this years tournament at the RH Academy has meant more schools can compete which has really upped the standard – good luck to all involved.”
