The 2018/19 Teachers UK Trophy will have a new name etched onto the plaque of honour, after three time winners King Edward bowed out of this seasons competition at the qualifying stage.

The Mansfield based school must now hand over the trophy to a new victor who will be the very first winner of the Teachers UK Trophy, following the competitions change of name from the Vauxhall Pentagon Cup this season.

Running since 2014 the competition gives pupils from years three and four the chance to compete against other schools with maximum game time, as each tournament includes a qualifying group followed by a grand final at the RH Academy.

Two teams from each qualifying group progress to the final and on Thursday (2nd May) it was Sutton-In-Ashfield’s Croft Primary and Forest Towns Abbey Primary who booked their place in the final, edging out three time champions King Edward.

Community Manager Gary Shaw said “As soon as the youngsters see the Trophy they really raise their game and that really led to a competitive afternoon’s football.

“Despite a very brief torrential hail storm which stopped play for five minutes, the kids gave it absolutely everything and I know the second qualifying group and subsequent final with be of the same competitive standard.”

The youngsters were also buoyed by the arrival of Mansfield Town young striker Jordan Graham who watched the action and took time to answer questions from participants – giving them advice on cherishing tournament football at a young age and learning from both good and bad experiences.

“Jordan [Graham] was really inspiring for the youngsters who listened to his every word and certainly took on board his advice.” Shaw added.
