Students from Bleasby Primary School have sealed their place in the EFL Under 11s Kids Cup Regional finals and are now just one tournament away from reaching Wembley, after winning Mansfield Town Football in the Community’s EFL Under 11s Kids Cup Local Final last night.
Bleasby were one of four teams competing for the crown after winning the qualifying tournaments and topped the league with six straight victories against fellow finalists Sutton Road Primary, King Edwards and Peafield Lane.
Played at the new RH Academy facility, all four teams competed in a league format playing each other twice in games of ten minutes, with Bleasby gaining maximum points, scoring sixteen goals and conceeding just once.
The youngsters only booked their place in the final last Friday when they beat big hitters Abbeygates on Penalties, narrowly beating former Wembley Finalists Samuel Barlow on the way.
In total over the past four weeks we have seen record numbers compete in the competition, with 33 teams from 31 of the regions schools take part, Community Manager Gary Shaw said “The standard this year has been very high indeed and for 264 of the areas youngsters to come and compete the way they have, the schools can be very proud of their efforts and the teams they’ve put together.
“Firstly a massive congratulations to Bleasby who have been strong contenders throughout the competition, they faced tough competition in the qualifiers and again tonight – I think they will be tough to beat when they represent Mansfield Town at the Regional final next year.
“I’d like to extend congratulations to all the pupils and staff who have invested time into taking part in this year’s competition, I look forward to seeing them again for future competitions such as the John Radford Trophy which we’ll run in the new year.”
Bleasby will now represent Mansfield Town Football Club alongside the winners of the Local Competitions ran by Community Schemes from eleven other league two clubs within the northern section including Notts County, Tranmere Rovers, Macclesfield and Bury, who will host the regional finals next year, date TBC.
The winner from that tournament will then face the winner from the southern section prior to the Sky Bet League Two play-off final at Wembley Stadium.
